Born in the
Golden Age of Kung Fu

In the early 1950s, Hong Kong became a living museum of Chinese martial arts. As political turmoil cast a shadow over the mainland, renowned Kung Fu masters sought refuge in the city, bringing generations of martial knowledge with them.

Growing up in this extraordinary era, Kung Fu was far more than a hobby for Sifu Wong Kwong Lun, it was a way of life. Immersed in a culture where every schoolboy trained in a martial discipline, his lifelong passion was ignited at age twelve when his father introduced him to Hung Kuen under the legendary Sifu Chan Hon Chung. This foundation sparked a relentless search for deeper understanding that would eventually lead him to the highest levels of internal mastery.

Destiny & Transmission

At twelve years old, Sifu Wong Kwong Lun's father introduced him to Hung Kuen under the legendary Sifu Chan Hon Chung. What began as a childhood activity soon evolved into a lifelong passion. Over the following years, he immersed himself in a wide range of martial disciplines, including Karate, Muay Thai, and Liu He Ba Fa, constantly searching for a deeper understanding of combat and a higher level of skill.
One cold night during the Chinese New Year celebrations in the late 1960s, fate intervened. Leaving a gathering at two o'clock in the morning, Sifu Wong Kwong Lun took a taxi home. During the ride, he began giving an impromptu lecture on self-defense to the driver. The driver listened quietly, then asked questions that revealed a profound depth of knowledge. To his astonishment, the man behind the wheel was Grand Master Law Chiu Wing, the renowned master of Snake Crane Wing Chun. Among thousands of taxis in Hong Kong, this impossible encounter changed the course of his life.
Shortly after the taxi encounter, Sifu Wong Kwong Lun formally performed bai si (拜師) and became Sifu Law’s disciple. Because of his commitments, Sifu Law entrusted the early training to his senior student, Lee Yuen. During the first year, Sifu Lee patiently guided him through the fundamentals, while Sifu Law visited regularly to observe, correct the smallest mistakes, and ensure the art was transmitted with absolute precision and integrity.
About a year later, Sifu Law resumed teaching more regularly. Over the next two years, under the combined guidance of Sifu Law and Sifu Lee, Sifu Wong Kwong Lun learned Cham Kiu, Biu Jee, the Wooden Dummy form, and the sophisticated techniques that made Snake Crane Wing Chun such a complete internal system. His understanding of martial arts deepened beyond anything he had previously experienced.
A new chapter began when he traveled to Canada to pursue his education, spending three years overseas before returning to Hong Kong. Before leaving Hong Kong for the second and final time, Sifu Law completed an important stage of his training by transmitting the Six-and-a-Half Point Pole and the Double Swords—the advanced weapons that represent the highest levels of the Snake Crane Wing Chun system.
More than fifty years have passed since those days, yet the lessons received from Sifu Law and Sifu Lee remain as vivid as ever. Their teachings shaped his understanding of martial arts, his character, and his discipline. Looking back, it remains a remarkable truth that one chance encounter with a taxi driver became the doorway to preserving one of the most important legacies in Wing Chun history.

"Even today, I often think about that cold Chinese New Year night and wonder whether it was simply coincidence, or destiny, that placed me in the back seat of Grand Master Law Chiu Wing’s taxi."

— Sifu Wong Kwong Lun
